Watershed Books Today

Watershed Books is weathering the financial “bad weather”.  Our community has been supportive and we in turn continue to support our customers with the best possible service.  In addition to a glorious collection of new, used, and rare books, we carry games, bookmarks, bookplates, beautiful bookends, stamps,  cards [featuring local artists] as well as art by local artists.  We are happy to do book searches, special orders, and can often find used textbooks at affordable prices.

We are committed to a sustainable and healthy community, and are encouraged by our efforts and those of many others locally.  We are additionally inspired by the President Obama’s call to service.

Best wishes to all for a peaceful and prosperous new year.

autumn thoughts; fall events

I’ve just returned from a wonderfully colorful sojourn  north, eventually arriving in Portland and an- oh- so- pleasing visit with my son, jesse.  It’s his artistic vision, by the way, that created Watershed Books website.

A constant for me about great trips  is… it is always so lovely to return home!  Lakeport is such a luscious little town.  A diverse community always working to making life better. [ and of course there’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed]

Like the rest of the country, we are all interested, if not deeply involved in the upcoming elections.  Whatever the outcome, I hope we all continue our commitment to sustainable and respectful living and environmental, economical and social justice.

So… that said…we are all looking forward to Mary McMillan’s visit to our bookstore.  Mary is Lake County’s poet laureate and like those that come before her works diligently to enrich the literary landscape of our community.

Mary McMillan’s new book, This Wanting, is a beautifully rendered volume of poetry that draws you into an atmospheric world so honestly and sometimes painfully wrought.

Please join us on Friday, November 7th from 3:00 until 5:00 as Ms. McMillan shares her inspiration, reads from her works and signs your copy!  Refreshments too.

As a bonus, the “First Friday Fling”  will begin at 5:00 in the Main Street Gallery two doors down.  New art is celebrated each month on the [what else] first Friday.

Jay Blu joins our Writer’s Studio

Wonderful local musician and author of The Final Buddha, Jay Blu will be sharing his thoughts and signing his book here at Watershed Books, 305 North Main Street in Lakeport, Ca.  He’ll be here from 3 until 5.  Join us for good refreshments and good conversation.  Email or call 707.263.5787 with questions .

Writer’s Studio

On Friday, September 5th,  Steve Bartholomew will share excerpts from his newest novel, Gold, a tale of the California gold rush.  This is the 3rd novel for Steve, so we are looking forward to learning more about his inspiration and unflagging creative energies.  Be sure to peruse those two earlier works; The  Terrorist Plot at Gopherville and Chapel Perilous. Refreshments too!

First Friday will be doubly fun.  Steve will join us at Watershed from 3:00pm until 5:00pm.  Next door at 5:00pm the Main Street Gallery and Lake County Arts Council will celebrate their monthly “Friday Fling” with new art and great wine. See you soon.

Wrong date for K.C. Patrick and upcoming slam on July 5th

Apologies all…the date for our Writer’s Studio with K.C. Patrick sharing stories from Pomo of Lake County will be held on Friday, June 27th from 3pm until 5pm.     …and…

May’s Poetry Slam was great and fun and so successful that we have planned another for Saturday, July 5th, from 3pm until 6pm.  Same rules as our first event as well as same $$ prizes.

In a nutshell…

3 poems, 3 rounds 3 winners.

At Victoria’s Cafe next to Watershed Books, 305 North Main Street in Lakeport.  Updates are at this site or myspace.com/lakeportpoetryslam or just call 707.263.5787.  See you there!!

June 27, Friday…save the date!

K. C. Patrick will be sharing stories from her recently published book The Pomo of Lake County  from 3pm until 5pm on Friday June 27th here at Watershed Books, 305 North Main Street in Lakeport.  Ms Patrick worked long and hard to tell some of the amazing, informative and sometime very painful stories of the first peoples of the Clear Lake basin.

From her book… “Secure in their isolated valley until the arrival of the white man, the Native Americans of Lake County and their ancestors lived for more than 12,000 years in this temperate Eden of abundance.  The anthropologist who labeled them all by one name was mistaken though; the Pomo were actually 72 independent villages, or tribelets, that spoke at least seven distinct and mutually unintelligible languages.  Theirs was a culture without war, without tyranny, without greed…”  K. C. Patrick will be signing her book and sharing her insights.

Join us for good discussion and refreshments.
